So we moved a step closer to the December national gradings this week in the Wisewarrior dojo, as we had three more people complete their part one gradings and a further two start the process. So congratulations to Dohighs Kash and Andreaj, and to Kohigh Chris for excellent spirit and technique in passing their dojo tests. Their gradings involved a one hour high pressure preparation, followed by a test of the applications of their Katas and Wazas under the watchful eyes of Sensei Tim helped by Tor San. It was great to see the applications take place with such a great degree of control and spirit, and their performances starting to look so polished that is was more in keeping with a public demo rather than a grading! Also well done to Dohigh Ben and Kohigh John, who have started their part ones with their application test and will be hopefully getting their gradings confirmed next week with the ‘five attack form’ combat test.
Sempai James and Dave did a great job helping out with the preparations of these students plus getting some important one to one time from Sensei Tim and Richard for their upcoming blackbelt gradings. I’m sure everyone here at wisewarrior, and not just the instructors, are looking forward to seeing their part one gradings, and with all the hard work that they’re putting in to this event it should be very spectacular!
On top of this all this Wednesday grading excitement Sensei Richard also ran an advanced weapons Jo class for some of our higher grade Aikido students. If what we saw last night was anything to go by then we shall be seeing some great looking Jo katas performed very soon, Richard San has said that he may be putting these up on our YouTube account soon, stay tuned!
Our Monday night was as always less of a syllabus night with Richard San running a live blade sword session, lovely to see Dohigh Tam back from her eastern travels, sword in hand and ready to do battle again! While in the other half of the room Sensei Tim ran the advanced combat session, our new student looked a little out of his depth but put in a brave effort, helped wonderfully by Mark San. The night finished in fine form with some Kumite (sparring), and a great demonstration of skill and control with the final bout between Tim San and Mark San to bring the session to an end.
Speaking of great sessions! Our next workshop (as heavily requested by a lot of you!) will be two hours of nunchaku run by Tim San! We still need to confirm the venue but the date will be the 26th of November. This will once again be open to members of the public with a limited number of free places for some of our students who get their requests in early! If you have any family/friends that you think would like to come along to this, it will be a £7 workshop. If you are hoping to bring anyone can you please let us know, just so that we have some idea as to how many pairs of Nunchaku we’ll be needing! Also if you can’t make it but have pair of Nunchakus then we would be grateful if you can loan them for the day?!
So once again well done to all involved in this weeks gradings and lessons and keep up the great work, for all those hoping to go to the national gradings there are now only 43 days to go!
