Never a good idea to get Richard San on his soap box, and questions regarding Sword and Aikido will usually do the trick in the dojo!
During Mondays lesson the Sensei in question was running a Sword class with Aikido students within it, with no Tim San around Richard San was firmly in his element on this occasion! By teaching how the two subjects of Sword and Aikido are so closely linked; “sword without a sword is aikido!” Was the line that one one of the Aikido students wanted clarifying, well that was all the prompt that Richard San needed, so the sword pattern that had been worked on for the first hour became the exact same aikido pattern for the second hour! Obviously when he gets a bit excited Richard San likes to see bodies flying through the air and this was exactly what happened, as the lesson progressed, lead by an ever enthused Richard San! Both aikido and sword students alike using their skills of sword to throw, sweep and lock each other, emphasising the point that Sword is the midwife to Aikido, everything fits and works like a treat, the cut is the throw!
This theme was even carried over in to Richard San’s blog this week, (this is what Tim San refers to as the ‘dog with a Frisbee” syndrome with Richard San!) But good fun was had by all and many lessons learned in the dojo as always!
Lessons learnt like the epic Kumite lesson on the Wednesday night, its worth asking Ben San what a Mark San punch to the chin really feels like when next you see him! 🙂
See you in the Dojo!
