Well as you might of heard mentioned in one of our classes and we hope, via the blogs, facebook or even our Twitter feed, that we now have confirmation for the ‘Self defence’ class on November the 3rd at the Yoga centre, from 12pm to 2pm.

Not only will Tim San and Richard San be the instructors but so will Hayley San! The emphasis of course will be on ladies self-defence, but there will still be some really useful strategies and defensive techniques for the men also, and much information that can be passed along to any ladies they might know. The workshop is free to all our students and is only only £7 for non-members. Check the whatsonblog for more information.

In other ‘stuff!’ Tim San has assured all the black belts that he has almost finished teaching the 1st Dan kata! Mutterings of ‘War and Peace’ length have been heard from Richard San!  But this great Kata will be done and dusted by this Monday, so now we can really get down to polishing it for the partner demonstration section of first part gradings, many thanks must go to the brown belts, especially Sempai’s Kash, Patrick and Andrej, who are busy helping the blackbelts with the attacks, and making them look so good!!

Richard San focused this week on the resheath during his sword class, once the technical boxes have been ticked and the sword student is confident with the resheath of his blade, then the more experienced sword practitioner may begin to use this part of sword not just as a way to finish up their sword kata and put the sword away, but as an artistic flourish that holds and presents the beauty of sword in the watchers mind and coveys the swordsman’s deeper knowledge of his sword. The class learned some great ideas about resheath technique, and looked really good!

On the Wednesday night we had 7 blackbelts teaching! This allowed everyone to have personal lessons in their grading subjects, so first part gradings will be happening within the next 4 weeks for all students hoping to grade on December the 2nd, so its very important to take those lessons from the dojo and start practicing at home, be that kick practice or kata and waza work, this is the way to make those great personal lessons really count, then become truly great in martial arts!

See you in the dojo!
