We definitely kicked into 2014 with a bang!
Our first session back was the long awaited ‘Black Belt Only Night.’ There were some pretty advanced concepts banded about for the guys to get their teeth into, these classes will be all about scenarios and situations not just more syllabus. Being a black belt is your opportunity to become a great martial artist!
Knife defence was first up, and will never be the same again for the higher grades – you’ve been warned!!!! These sessions try to push the boundaries of the black belts by being more than just Karate or Aikido, these subjects are great and got you your black belts, they made you accurate and fast with minds trained to learn. But now we can move further forward to explore different aspects of combat and find other martial art solutions to the problems our scenarios present. Monday also gives the black belts the experience of training on the mat alongside Tim San, Richard San and Tor San, something I rather think they enjoyed! See you all back again for February the 3rd!
And Wednesday night followed suit with an interesting take on the whole ‘speed, time and distance’ thing, a challenge we martial artists continually try to improve upon. Our job as instructors is not just to hand out syllabus and teach patterns but also to make an attempt at moving martial arts forward. This we do through our students, whose willingness to learn and explore concepts enables us to push the boundaries of how we can advance. So we can look forward to more concept nights on Wednesdays and not just syllabus!
A reminder if you are on standing order that your fee includes extra lessons on Monday night and Saturday, plus extra one to one sessions, a great way to get better at your martial arts and fitter at the same time throughout 2014!!
Stay tuned to our calendar for 2014 grading dates, plus keep an eye on the ‘Whats On’ blog for upcoming free seminars. Plus….web site improvements! The IT challenge is never ending!
Welcome back all of you and see you in the dojo!
