A self defence theme for us this week, with articles on our free email system as well as on other media posts. It was also the main thrust of this weeks lessons, both in our Monday and Wednesday night small group sessions, plus in some of your one to one sessions, unless you are grading soon of course!
While Richard San got our advanced grades ready for their upcoming gradings Tim San took to the floor to demonstrate some great techniques of dealing with grabs from all directions, ‘dont tolerate the grab!’ seemed to be the rallying cry from that session! 🙂 The thing about Self Defence training is that it all boils down to simple concepts, concepts you can learn and apply in minutes. A self defence technique, by definition, is something ANYONE can learn and master quickly. Grabs in particular are straight forward enough to deal with, quite simply – just get rid them! And the quicker the better ‘cos the longer they’re holding you the more of a sitting duck you are! Martial arts is an amazing journey, and the longer you train within it the more the exploration of the self increases, but for the majority of us self defence was the reason we all began, so sessions like these are great ways to improve and learn new concepts, or just touch base with the fundamentals again!
Getting close to the ever imminent National Grading Day in December, and the heat is definitely on for our brown and black belts, so there were extra efforts and exertions from both instructors and students tweaking performances and ironing out those wrinkles with syllabus in the dojos this week, so keep pushing, keep getting better!
Until then, see you in the Dojo!
