Wednesday seems to be turning into our big grading night as we had loads more people complete their preliminaries. So big congratulations to Dohighs Ben, Kohighs Jon and Kai-Shin, who started with their ‘5 attack’ combat drills under the guidance of our 2 trainee instructors, Sempies Dave then on to a tough test from Sensei Tim. Also Dohigh Patrick started his grading with a great demonstration of the five attacks combat test, and will hopefully be completing this section next week.
We had some great weapons work being done throughout the evening. Dohigh Nick started work on his kata, and Dohigh Wills worked on and then performed a great display on the Jo staff, demonstrating his knowledge of the weapon in front of everybody, and confirming another successful part one grading completed.
For all you weapon enthusiasts, we will definitely be running a Nunchaku workshop on the 26th November. We should have the venue, and therefore the times confirmed soon. This is taking slightly longer than we had hoped as all our normal training venues have walls with mirrors. Great for correcting stances and posture, but not the best choice for Nunchaku. Keep checking back here. Once we have the venue confirmed we will post the details.
And still on the subject of weapons, we managed to persuade Sensei Richard to do some Jo staff work which we filmed on Monday. This should be appearing on our UTube account soon. For those that haven’t been following this, we now have four clips, so please have a look and let us know what you think and what else you would like to see.
So once again, well done to all who passed their part one gradings this week, and to everybody going to the national gradings, keep up the good work, as they are now only five weeks away”

Sort of a mention for me on line two! it was good to see Graham san back training. hopefully I can get some inspiration from him for my black belt grading. Well done to everyone that has passed their first part.

Congratulations to all those who passed! Everyone’s on top form!
A personal favourite from Wednessday night was the “PG” rated Brown Belt Knife Defence. A stirling effort by Tor San!

Congratulations to everyone who passed! I’m really enjoying being a trainee instructor, it is really rewarding seeing people you are working with look so good for their first part gradings.
I agree with Dohigh Kevin that the Brown Belt Knife Defense was fun, much credit to Tor San. Though, the full version is still my favourite by a mile. If you’ve not done it, you have something to look forward too!

Sounds as if you all had a great night on that Wednesday! Sorry i missed this one, but knew all your work and training would pay off!
So everybody who is going to the national grading day has now had their first part grading done, brilliant! Or am i forgetting some people?

I think you are missing one or two people maybe going for black belt! Can anyone give me advise that will help with kick heights? I find it hard to get all my kicks head height any tips?

I’m shocked that you have forgotten us Sen.
Not even 6 weeks until part two grading…
Sempai James · 1 November 2011 at 3:38 pm
Sempai we will have to give them something to remember when we do our first part….
Richard S. · 1 November 2011 at 6:09 pm
Thats the idea S.James, its gonna be a great first part for you two!
About those kicks, I’m sure Tim.S has some ideas about stretches for you, did Graeame.S drop off that stretching machine last week?
Sempai Dave · 2 November 2011 at 8:08 am
Sempai, agree 100%, I don’t like being forgotten! 😉
Though I do think they are just thinking up something extra special for us.

for the stretching… do the leg swing warm up first thing in the morning, EVERY morning, and then again in the evenings. And don’t forget that stretching and warming up are NOT the same thing!! Ask me again at tonights lesson. TD
