First, great news, we have the venue for our Nunchaku Session, which will be held at the Cheltenham YMCA Lesser Hall, 2pm till 4pm on the 26th of November! This will be a great session that will teach the basics but also for you experienced guys some new tricks!! Its still free for our students, but try and bring a friend along at £7.00, its great value! Look out for the YouTube clip to come! We now have 4 films up on our YouTube channel, Richard San has put the current Jo staff kata up, so anyone doing their Jo weapons grading next month, then do it just like that!
The Monday session was a great start to the wisewarrior week! Richard San was teaching the advanced ‘Mirror of Truth’ cuts to the sword class, while Tim San went through the combat concepts for black belt for our brown belts, much to the enjoyment of Nick San and Mark San who enjoyed getting stuck into those great lessons again!
Tuesday as always was pure aikido with a mixed grade class ranging from beginner to blue belt. This week we were developing fluid locks and holds from static grabs. As always with our Tuesday class it was great to move away from the syllabus and let the creative spirit run free – always the best place to be for aikido! Richard San finished up the night with the ‘art of the draw’ bokken lesson, a really intense yet spiritual end to the night, especially when each of us had to face another swordsman and counter their draws and cuts! If you haven’t yet tried one of the Tuesday sessions then pop along as its vastly different in contrast to our combat based sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays!
So to Wednesday –
The main event as always. It was quite a shock for the students to know there are now only 4 weeks left before their gradings! So a very busy start to the night, especially as we had a great turnout of black belts, with 7 blackbelts in the room! All the students were kept busy working on their katas, and demonstrated the results to the whole class. With Jo, Sword, Aikido and Karate students all in the room it was one hell of a show!
Everyone had a great ‘up tempo’ ending when Tim San took the whole class for an advanced knife defence session, from black belt right down to orange belt, quite an event when suddenly a lower grade is being attacked by the likes of Richard San or Tor San! All those black belt combat spirits gave a fantastic finish to our week of formal sessions.
So the clock ticks on with only Sempai James and Dave left to grade, but I have a feeling next week might be an important one for them!! Especially as they will be performing ALL their Katas to the class before the lesson starts!!
